Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know if I have a "good" therapist?

A: It’s all about the "Therapeutic Alliance." If you feel safe, heard, and—most importantly—challenged to grow without feeling judged, you’ve found a winner. If you’re hiding things from them, it might not be the right fit.

Q: What is the difference between a Psychologist, a Counselor, and a Psychiatrist?

A: Think of it this way: Psychiatrists are doctors who primarily manage medication. Psychologists often do deep testing and talk therapy. Counselors/Therapists focus on talk therapy and coping strategies for daily life.

Q: Can I tell my therapist about something illegal I did?

A: Generally, yes. Therapists are bound by confidentiality. They are only required to break it if there is an immediate risk of you harming yourself, harming others, or if child/elder abuse is involved. Otherwise, your "secrets" are safe.
